A Fall Day out in Northumberland County

Here we are in the midst of Fall and I’m fortunate enough to live in one of the most picturesque communities; Northumberland County.

Whether you’re a local interested in exploring your own backyard, or looking to take a drive down from the city, here are a few of my favorite seasonal activities.

The Northumberland County Forest
Arguably one of the most beautiful in Ontario, the Northumberland forests offers 5,424 acres of trails to explore. So grab your horse, ATV, Bike, or your boots for a good old traditional hike. With nothing but trees, birds, and tranquility you'll feel like you’re in another world. Make sure to grab a map, phone, and let someone know where you are; 5,424 acres of forest is a lot to get lost in.

Burnham Family Market
A long standing tradition of many locals is picking your own pumpkin at the Burnham Family Farm. Located on Highway 2 between Cobourg and Port Hope it’s a central spot and you can grab some of their delicious treats and butter tarts while you’re there. As an added treat, until October 28th you can see some very unique and beautifully decorated pumpkins and purchase tickets to win one with all proceeds going to the Northumberland United Way. I hear there is even a particularly interesting political pumpkin this year!

Cricklewood Farm
Another favorite of my family is Cricklewood Farm located just West of Brighton on Highway 2. They have something for everyone; pick your own pumpkin, a Corn Maze, Monster Hunt, and a big mound of hay that little kids just love to climb!

A Country drive
Nothing beats a drive to truly experience all the fall colours and sights. If you want to add a little taste and flavor to your drive I suggest taking the Northumberland/Kawartha butter tart tour. If butter tarts aren’t your thing, there are a number of other popular driving tour options including; arts and sculpture, farm and food tours, and craft beers, Sprits, and Wines (make sure to add a designated driver for this one).

So there you have it; four amazing ways to spend a Fall day in the County.
